“Wildhood” has received an Honourable Mention in the 2026 Edna Staebler Personal Essay Contest. The piece will be published in The New Quarterly this fall — a total dream of a literary journal, and one I’ve been hoping to get published in for years.

SO excited to hear that my latest personal essay, “Five Presents My Sister Sent My Son Without Knowing Him At All” has won first place in the Creative Nonfiction Collective Society’s 2026 contest, in partnership with subTerrain magazine. The story will be published in subTerrain in the fall of 2026.

Big year for “Wildhood”! So thrilled to hear that I’ve made the longlist for Room Magazine’s 2025 Creative Non-Fiction Contest, which is being judged this year by the glorious Amy Lin.

Honoured and smiling upon learning that my personal essay “Wildhood” has been shortlisted for the 2025 Constance Rooke Creative Nonfiction Prize, an annual contest from The Malahat Review.

IT’S REAL, IT’S REAL! My first kids’ book, KATRINA HYENA, STAND-UP COMEDIAN, has been officially released into the world. It’s a story about a laughing hyena who laughs at the wrong times. I’m forever grateful to Owlkids Books for publishing it, as well as Aparna Varma for her hilarious and vibrant illustrations. I’ve created THE FIRST EVER, HOPEFULLY ANNUAL, CHRISTOPHER HITCHENS AWARD FOR HUMOUR WRITING! Christopher Hitchens was that British dude who wrote a series of completely earnest essays for Vanity Fair about how women are inherently less funny than men. So this is a prize for the best piece of satire or humour writing by a Canadian woman or non-binary writer. Second City has agreed to partner with me on it, and the winner will get $1000 cash and a free Second City writing class. Judge Lorna Crozier has just announced the winner of the 2023 International Amy MacRae Award for Memoir, and I’m thrilled to have been chosen as this year’s runner-up! If you’d like to read my entry, “The Almost-Dad,” you can find it right here.
